ETIAS
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is a European Union travel authorization program that requires non-EU citizens to obtain pre-travel approval before entering the Schengen Area. Launched in 2025, ETIAS functions as a risk-assessment system similar to programs in the United States and Canada, requiring travelers to complete an online application providing personal, passport, and travel information. The system aims to enhance border security and public safety by identifying potential security risks before arrival, while streamlining entry for low-risk travelers. Most third-country nationals, including citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, and other visa-exempt countries, must obtain ETIAS approval before traveling to any of the 30 Schengen member states, though the authorization is not a visa and does not guarantee entry.
