Retirement & Benefits Guide in Armenia
Retirement visas, pensions, and healthcare for retirees
Retirement Visa Program
No dedicated retirement or passive income visa exists in Armenia. Foreign retirees can apply for temporary residence via business, work, or study visas, or permanent residency after 3 years with proof of income and integration.
Pension System
Multi-pillar PAYG system with basic social pension (~16,000 AMD), labor pension based on 10+ years service, and mandatory funded component (5% employee + 5% state contributions since 2018). Average pension ~50,000 AMD in 2024; replacement rates low <40%.
Pension Adequacy
Low pensions (~50,000 AMD/month) inadequate for living costs; social pension for non-workers 36,000 AMD. Funded pensions supplement state benefits at age 63, but overall coverage leaves many reliant on family.
Healthcare Access
Basic public healthcare via BBP covers elderly essentials; private insurance available but often excludes over-65s. Quality moderate in Yerevan, limited rural access; expats advised to secure comprehensive international coverage.
