Climate & Weather Guide in Western Sahara
Climate zones, seasonal temperatures, rainfall patterns, and best travel times
Western Sahara has an overwhelmingly hot desert climate, with very low rainfall, intense sunshine, and large day-to-night temperature swings inland. Coastal areas are moderated by the cold Canary Current, which brings cooler temperatures, fog, and slightly higher humidity than the interior. Most of the territory fits the Köppen hot desert category (BWh), while the far south and some coastal strips can experience marginally less extreme desert conditions. For residents and expats, the main climate considerations are heat, aridity, sun exposure, and the need for reliable cooling and water access.
