Politics & Government Guide in Uganda

Political system, governance structure, stability indicators, and democratic institutions

Uganda is a presidential republic led by President Yoweri Museveni since 1986, operating under a multiparty system adopted in 2005. The country held elections in January 2026, with Museveni securing another term amid opposition claims of irregularities. However, recent assessments indicate deteriorating democratic governance, shrinking civic space, and rising political repression, despite public opinion data showing strong rejection of authoritarian rule among Ugandans.
