Retirement & Benefits Guide in Kuwait
Retirement visas, pensions, and healthcare for retirees
Retirement Visa Program
Kuwait does not offer a retirement or passive income visa for expats. Foreign retirees can visit on tourist visas (up to 3 months) or seek long-term residency through employment sponsorship, family ties, or investor programs, but no dedicated retiree path exists.
Pension System
PAYG social security system via Public Institution for Social Security with employer (11.5%) and employee (8%) contributions. Old-age pension starts at 65% of last monthly earnings after 15 years, plus 2% per extra year up to 95%; early retirement possible after 25-30 years of service.
Pension Adequacy
Replacement rates 65-95% based on contributions and earnings, adequate for Kuwaiti nationals with career employment. Private supplementary pensions available for self-employed; system covers old-age, disability, and death benefits.
Healthcare Access
Free high-quality public healthcare for Kuwaiti citizens via Ministry of Health; expat retirees must rely on private insurance or employer coverage as public access is limited to nationals and sponsored residents. Modern facilities available but private care is expensive.
