Climate & Weather Guide in United Arab Emirates
Climate zones, seasonal temperatures, rainfall patterns, and best travel times
The United Arab Emirates has a predominantly hot arid desert climate, with extremely long, very hot summers and short, mild winters. Most of the country falls under Köppen BWh (hot desert), while the mountain areas in the northeast are cooler and can be slightly wetter than the lowlands. Coastal humidity is often high, especially along the Arabian Gulf, making heat feel more intense in summer. Rainfall is scarce and irregular, concentrated in the cooler months and sometimes arriving in brief, intense bursts. For residents and expats, the climate strongly favors indoor cooling, shaded outdoor spaces, and careful planning around seasonal heat and humidity.
