Politics & Government Guide in Cameroon

Political system, governance structure, stability indicators, and democratic institutions

Cameroon is an electoral autocracy dominated by President Paul Biya and the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement since 1982. While nominally a presidential republic with bicameral legislature, political power is heavily concentrated in the presidency, with democratic institutions serving largely as facades. The country faces significant challenges including ongoing armed conflicts in Anglophone and Far North regions, widespread corruption, and limited press freedom.
